It's 60% more expensive, but is it 60% more Aston?

I thought about comparing that $28k DB7 to an early DB9 a few days ago, but the Tavarish article gives me a reason to do so now.

The DB7 is an interesting thing. It serves as the basis for the modern Aston, my all-time favorite car. It has 80% of the great styling, the same 6.0 V12 with roughly the same power; and with the right exhaust, the same sound.

Then you open the door and...

The interior is kinda meh. The materials aren’t bad, but it’s the ‘90s curved-blob shapes all over that let the whole car down. Maybe I’m just used to the more modern and elegant interiors of newer Astons...

Introduce the DB9. While DB7 served as the basis of the modern Aston, this was the first modern Aston. The sharper improved styling makes it still look right today. The V12 gets a slight power increase and has the signature Aston gurgle-burble as stock.

And the interior! It’s as bang-up-to-date and crisp and clean and modern as a departure lounge in a Swiss airport ...whatever that means. Gone are the 1990s shapes and Miata-sourced door handles.

In conclusion, you can have the basis of the modern Aston for $28,000, or pay an extra $17,000 to have the modern Aston.

I really have no idea what the better value is. I look at the DB7's interior again and think that it really isn’t bad, just dated. Then I look at the DB9 as a whole and it steals all of my attention.

Your choice!

I’d save for the DB9. Styling is 1/2 of the appeal for an AM. The V12 is the other half.

Well the DB7 is just an XJS underneath so there’s your real answer. That said, I forgot what the question was.

I want to save the money and go buy that 440 Plymouth Satellite on BaT, but I would regret not buying the DB9.
